Monster Mags Theater ("Shock Award")

Back in this post, you saw the poster for The Monster of Piedras Blancas, with the FM "Shock Award" emblem. Here is the trailer for the movie, that starts out with FM #2 and the award emblem with the voiceover saying "Famous Monsters of Hollywood magazine names it "Shock Award Winner!"  Hollywood!?

  1. DROOOOOOL!!!...

i noticed the same gore shots that were cut out of the TV print of this film were also missing from the trailer, you can hear the jump cuts! the whole FM tie-in is so freaking kool, though, i love it!

  2. I wish someone would put out a restored DVD of this movie! Not sure who owns it, or if it's PD? It's not the greatest '50s sci-fi/monster movie, but I already have all of those. :D

  3. MONSTER OF PIEDRAS BLANCAS is one of my all-time favorite fifties B-movie monsters! Don Sullivan and Jeanne Carmen (hotcha!) have pretty good chemistry and there are some generally shocking scenes for the day. A 72 minute DVD version is offered for sale at MONSTERS IN MOTION. However, it's not adverstised as a "restored" version.

Looks like it's copied from a Republic VHS, so I suppose it's the best you're likely to get. By "restored" I meant picture and sound quality, but the Republic VHS may be good enough.
